McCall's Principal, Mrs. Carol May
I am deeply committed to ensuring that each student's educational journey is characterized by respect, kindness, and a strong emphasis on academic success. My career started in Beach Park, Illinois, as a special education teacher for students with social-emotional needs. I eagerly accepted a position with Waukegan Public Schools, where I also received my K-12 education. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership: School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. With over 20 years of experience as an educator, I had the pleasure of teaching at McCall School for seven years. The skills I developed in my special education classroom were invaluable for my transition into school administration.
In July 2013, I proudly became the principal of H.R. McCall School. Before this role, I gained extensive leadership experience, including coaching teachers and serving as Elementary Assistant Principal at Clearview School, which had an enrollment of 750-800 students. During my tenure at H.R. McCall, our school achieved the distinction of being named Waukegan’s first-ever National Blue Ribbon School in the program's 38-year history.
On a personal note, my husband and I enjoyed raising our three children in the local area. We now have three college graduates, one serving as a special education teacher in the Waukegan school district. I genuinely understand parental involvement is essential for student success.
Carol May, Principal
Waukegan Public Schools
Dear HR McCall Families and Friends:
It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as your new Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. I am eager to help McCall continue to excel in academic excellence.
I attended Lane College where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I hold a master’s degree in elementary education and educational leadership. 2023-2024 marks my eighth year in Waukegan Community Unit School District #60. In my tenure, I have served as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher.
I come to you humbled about this opportunity that I have been given. I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. A strong school and home relationship is vital to the success of our children. It is my goal that I continue to create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for your family. I am fully committed to serving all our students and ensuring high-quality education.
In closing, I want to thank you in advance for a great 2023-2024 school year. I look forward to growing and learning in my first year as your Assistant Principal.
