McCall's Principal, Mrs. Carol May

I am passionately committed to fostering an educational experience for every student that is rooted in respect, kindness, and academic excellence. My career began in Beach Park, Illinois, as a special education teacher working with students with social-emotional needs. I was honored to return to my roots by joining Waukegan Public Schools—the district where I received my own K–12 education.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership: School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. Over the past 26 years, I have served in various educational roles, including seven years as a teacher at McCall School. The skills I developed in the special education classroom provided a strong foundation for my transition into school leadership.

In July 2013, I was proud to be appointed principal of H.R. McCall School. Prior to this role, I gained meaningful leadership experience by coaching teachers and serving as the Elementary Assistant Principal at Clearview School, which served 750–800 students. Under my leadership at McCall, the school earned the historic honor of becoming Waukegan’s first-ever National Blue Ribbon School in the program’s 38-year history.
