About our Principal

 McCall's Principal, Mrs. Carol May

Principal's

I commit all of my energy and passion to ensuring that the student's educational experience is marked with respect, kindness, and a focus on academic achievement. My career began in Beach Park, Illinois as a special education teacher for students with social-emotional needs. I jumped at the opportunity to accept a position with Waukegan Public Schools, where I received my K-12 education. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership: School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. I have been an educator for over 20 years.  It was a delight to teach for seven years here at McCall School. The experience I obtained teaching in my special education classroom helped equip me with some of the necessary skills needed for school administration.

I became the proud principal of H.R. McCall School in July 2013. Before becoming principal, I had many leadership experiences including coaching teachers and serving as Elementary Assistant Principal at Clearview School, which averaged 750-800 students. During my tenure at H.R. McCall, our school was named Waukegan’s first-ever National Blue Ribbon School in the program's 38-year history.

On a personal note, my husband and I enjoyed raising our three children in the local area. We now have two college graduates, one serving as a special education teacher in the Waukegan school district. We have one still enrolled in college. I genuinely understand parental involvement is essential for student success.

Dear HR McCall Families and Friends:

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself as your new Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. I am eager to help McCall continue to excel in academic excellence.

I attended Lane College where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I hold a master’s degree in elementary education and educational leadership. 2023-2024 marks my eighth year in Waukegan Community Unit School District #60. In my tenure, I have served as a fourth and fifth-grade teacher.

I come to you humbled about this opportunity that I have been given. I truly believe that it takes a village to raise a child. A strong school and home relationship is vital to the success of our children. It is my goal that I continue to create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for your family. I am fully committed to serving all our students and ensuring high-quality education.

In closing, I want to thank you in advance for a great 2023-2024 school year. I look forward to growing and learning in my first year as your Assistant Principal.

Sincerely,

Shannon Lindsey-Burke
