McCall's Principal, Mrs. Carol May

I commit all of my energy and passion to ensuring that the student's educational experience is marked with respect, kindness, and a focus on educational achievement. My career began in Beach Park, Illinois as a special education teacher for students with social-emotional needs. I jumped at the opportunity to accept a position with Waukegan Public Schools, where I received my K-12 education. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Educational Leadership: School Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. I have been an educator for over 20 years. It was a delight to teach for seven years here at McCall School. The experience I obtained teaching in my special education classroom helped equip me with some of the necessary skills needed for school administration.
I became the proud principal of H.R. McCall School in July 2013. Before becoming principal, I had many leadership experiences including coaching teachers and serving as Elementary Assistant Principal at Clearview School, which averaged between 750-800 students at the time. During my tenure at H.R. McCall, our school was named Waukegan’s first-ever National Blue Ribbon School in the program's 38-year history.
On a personal note, my husband and I enjoyed raising our three children in the local area. We now have two college graduates, one of who is serving as a special education teacher in the Waukegan school district. We have one still enrolled in college. I genuinely understand parental involvement is essential for student success.
